This is an exciting role in Unilever’s Sustainable Sourcing team. Unilever has significantly stepped up its ambition to drive impact for people and nature in the transition from the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) to the Unilever Compass strategy. The new multi-year commitments require embarking on an ambitious journey to change commodity supply chain traceability and transparency, to increase the accountability of upstream supply chain actors for environmental and social risk, and to deliver on our commitments to a deforestation-free supply chain. This role requires a passion to change the world for the better. It requires strong leadership and communication capability. We are seeking a highly curious and motivated individual to work at the heart of sustainable sourcing of palm oil and be a major actor in the delivery of a deforestation-free supply for the business, especially related to our direct sourcing program from palm oil mills and independent smallholder farmers. Your duties will include supplier onboarding, stakeholder engagement, project management, and partnership development, especially related to palm oil companies, mills, and our independent smallholder farmer inclusion strategy. This role shall work closely with Unilever’s Procurement Buyers and various internal and external stakeholders to implement the company’s sustainable sourcing and deforestation-free supply chain strategy, especially for our sourcing for Unilever Oleochemicals Indonesia (UOI).
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage and deliver the implementation of Unilever’s strategy on sustainable sourcing (SuSo) and deforestation-free commitments related to the businesses direct sourcing program from strategic suppliers, palm oil mills, and smallholder farmers.
- Design and provide the sustainable sourcing and deforestation-free implementation plans to our strategic suppliers including for palm oil mills and smallholder farmers that supply chain.
- Deliver and monitor a sustainable sourcing framework for new supplier selection and onboarding.
- Monitor and measure progress of suppliers’ compliance to the Unilever People and Nature policy and overall sustainability performance related to traceability, deforestation-free milestones, and other related sustainable sourcing targets. Serve as a main contact point for the sustainable sourcing strategy development and implementation.
- Coordinate all progress with relevant stakeholders related to the delivery of targets set with strategic suppliers, palm oil mills, and their supply base (including plantations / estates, outgrowers, dealers and independent smallholders) related to Unilever’s responsible, 2 sustainable, and deforestation-free supply chain.
- Build pitch packages (comprising of commercial, legal, finance and SuSo policy documents) for account managers.
- Drive key sustainability initiatives with strategic suppliers and palm oil mills related to traceability, smallholder mapping, surveying, and training of good agricultural practices and regenerative agriculture practices.
- Design and drive smallholder farmer and middlemen (dealer) sustainable incentive program.
- Manage project implementor partners, consultants, and service providers on the ground.
- Execute and implement cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence to provide better transparency and accountability in supply chain.
- Support in securing funding for working capital and asset investments either internally or via external financing entities to support the delivery of a sustainable, socially responsible, deforestation-free, and smallholder farmer inclusive supply chain.
ESSENTIAL
- 5+ years of experience in sustainability, procurement, or agriculture development.
- University degree economics, environmental studies or management, agriculture development, supply chain, sciences, or related field. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
- Proven and recognizable achievements in sustainable agriculture and supply chain knowledge from previous procurement experience
- Experience with sustainable agriculture standards and certification schemes.
- Excellent Excel & PowerPoint skills that support well-developed skills in presenting complex information, both visually and in writing
- Must be a self-starter with strong bias for action, accountability, responsibility and growth mindset.
- A willingness to work with uncertainty and information gaps; to set a direction where there is no precedent.
- Must be a strong executor, being able to work independently and virtually.
- Must lead both processes and people across a broad and diverse geographic and business environment.
